Turf Dancing
Today, Youth Hip-Hop Dancing in the Entertainment Industry has grown exponentially and remains relatively constant based on the creativity that evolves out of the streets, thus creating a demand for Youth Entertainment.
Physical Activity and the awareness of the Health Disparities is lacking attention and affecting today’s youth Nationwide. Having Hip-Hop Underground Dance Sporting Competitions will motivate youth to empower themselves to be healthy non-violent leaders in our communities. The Architeckz has created a “Athletic Hip-Hop Team” to encourage youth to use Hip-Hop Street Dances as an Inner City Sport for all City Neighborhoods Promoting Physical Activity, team work and Unity. The Architeckz are a Hip-Hop Athletic Team that travels city to city challenging other urban street dancers to competitions in their own neighborhoods (And 1 style). We are encouraging a new sporting activity titled T.U.R.F .’n©(Takin Up Room on the Floor).
We have organized an outlet to develop positive healthy alternatives to working out and feeling good while dancing. The Northern California Turf Dancing Legends and the visiting city Legends would issue a formal challenge to all Neighborhood street dancers and teams in any city, town, state, or country in the world. If that team can compete with the best, an stake there reputation on their feet, then they are ready to accept the challenge against the raw, un-cut, hip-hop subculture of the of the UTA’s professional Turf Dancing Legends?
TURF is an acronym for Taking Up Room on the Floor as created by influential Turf dancer, Jeriel Bey and is a form of dance that originated at house parties and the inner city streets of Oakland, California. Originally known as “Hittin’ It”, TURF dancing is an evolution and fusion of various funk style dance forms such as gliding, waving, popping, and boogaloo
During the 90s, a resurgence of interest in the aforementioned styles was revisited, merged, and remixed. Compared with its influences, TURF dancing became more of a free flowing art form that rarely followed a set of defined rules. Talented Turfers would be willing to perform to any kind of music and generally do not mind whether the music is fast or slow. The dance’s guiding principles are heavily rooted in creating original style, illusions, and storytelling.
In 2005 The Architeckz coined a Hip-Athleticz Competition titled “Lourd of the Rings“, which was the first 1-on-1 freestyle Battle between two cities (Oakland’s Turfn vs LA’s Krump). This opened the door for other groups and organizations such as The Animaniakz, Maniakz, The Fiends, The Diplomatz, BDL, Turf Wars, and Golden Gigs. Despite continuous impassioned debates between dancers in Oakland, Memphis, and New York, as to which city hosts the best Turfers, the love for the neighborhood dance culture is strong in all three, as is its continued popularity within these regions.
But now T.U.R.F Dancing has become Global and every Culture has the own style of Turf Dancing so let us unite as one community and represent our STYLES……! NEVER STOP DANCING!
