The Architeckz Project Founder, Jeriel Bey talks about The Project…

From the west to the east and back again, from Oakland to the Billboards 2006 awards: The Architeckz was created on High then blessed in my mind in 2002 after the untimely Lay-off of a warehouse job and losing my apartment. Brainstorming with brothers Omar Bey and King Bey, The idea of mentoring youth by teaching them to Love instead of Hate. Dancing has always been a blessing for me; my brother Omar suggested that I use the talent the Creator blessed me with to feed myself. So the idea of promoting inner city Street dancing as a sport was one that could reach more Families, small and large Businesses, Politicians, philanthropist, and community leaders. My sister Amena Bey suggested I sit in a Health conference in Oakland, she thought it would be a good idea since dancing is a physical activity, it would be good to tie the two together. Seeking, my brothers an I sought out to champion some youth to assist in our mission and Demetrious Zigler, Chare Johnson-Bey, Loretha Henry our the first of many to come an organized themselves Guided with the Entertainment background of my brother Omar and I came under the Architeckz tutelage. Left with a choice and Faith The Architeckz were launched by 4 Corners of Drew, Inc. in 2002.

“In my mind there are certain things a dance teacher isn’t going to do, but a coach will, that’s why I created a league, (The Freestyle Dance Legends) and a team, The Architeckz, to spring board the platform behind Health component as a sport having young people organize in a way never thought of before. When something as natural as dancing can allow you to express the body in such a way that it embraces the mind, body, and spirit, gives our community a deeper look into the problem of the Healthy Lifestyles facing our communities. The inner city was the initial target group for The Architeckz Project because These communities all have five things in common, Instability, Inconstancy, Weakness, Insufficiency of Knowledge, and Misery, these are mental disparities facing our community that needed to be addressed”.

Target Demographics:

Because The United Turf Association can be viewed as music and a street dancing lifestyle titled ”T.u.r.f Dancing” (Takin Up Room on the Floor). It has increased it’s marketability beyond the scope of it’s originally intended demographic: The Hip-Fitness Community. The Freestyle Dance Legends offers cutting edge performance and product to Youth and adult’s age 8 through 45.  Our audience and consumers are of all races, belief systems and sexual preferences.
Today, Youth Hip-Hop Dancing in the Entertainment Industry has grown exponentially and remains relatively constant based on the creativity that evolves out of the streets, thus creating a demand for Youth Entertainment. Physical Activity and the awareness of the Health Disparities is lacking attention and affecting today’s youth Nationwide. Having Hip-Hop Dance Sporting Competitions will motivate youth to empower themselves to be healthy non-violent leaders in our communities. To support this cause:

TOP 10 REASONS TO HELP US RAISE MONEY FOR HEALTHY LIFESTYLES FOR YOUTH:

10.     Because being healthy is not always how we feel physically, Mental Disease is just as contagious in youth, looking at negative images in the communities growing up.
9.     Because  Health education is best early in life
8.    Because Body,Mind and Spirit means knowing how to take on small lifestyle changes  an  evolve.  For some, it will mean the end of their habits, for others energy for everyday tasks such as walking; making dinner or doing homework.
7.     Because being healthy doesn’t have to be boring, there are entertaining and athletic ways to promote healthy lifestyles.
6.     Because it teaches you discipline.
5.     Because the earlier you know about health the longer you live.
4.     Because health is your wealth.
3.     Because ALL donations (large and small) make a difference.
2.     Because a sense of our state is our first duty, but knowing we have your support will help us meet this challenge.
1.    Because Obesity is one of the #1 killers in America.
